When the Weather (not the hair) is Frightful

Blah… it’s winter. 

While the season is perfect to get comfortable with a cup of hot cocoa, Netflix, & your cat, you can’t ignore the fact that the dry, dreary, plain yucky weather can wreak havoc on your hair. Don’t fret! There are plenty of ways you can protect your hair from the dreaded weather. 

Your hair starts to become more difficult to retain moisture, making it dry, brittle, and prone to breakage and damage, not to mention the frizz and static that often comes (though doesn’t go) with your winter wardrobe. Scorching hot water in the shower may feel great on a cold winter’s morning but you are causing more harm than good. Your skin and hair loses all it natural oils and your pores and hair cuticles remains open. Lock in moisture by rinsing with warm to cool, NOT hot. Fun tip: Apply a thin layer of coconut oil to your skin (and hair if your hair is thick and course) before rinsing. Your skin will remain silky and soft. Also, blow dry your hair on low or medium heat. Let’s take just 5 more minutes in the morning. It’s not that bad… and I promise you, you’ll thank me. Plus, it’s more time to hide from your kids and husbands. Towels and Hats and Friction… OH MY!

Rubbing your hair with a towel when you get out of the shower can cause some serious breakage. Your hair is at its weakest state when it is wet. Blot and squeeze the excess water out. Hats are another culprit for breakage. I get it, it’s freaking cold and we need hats-plain and simple. However, taking them on and off can cause friction, breakage, and horrible static. Try putting a silk bandana in the hat or wrapping a silk scarf around your head first before adorning your cute winter hat. Add Some Color to the Gray & Drab 

Spice up your look with a new color. Don’t go drastic since lord knows you will change your mind come spring. However, a little makeover does wonders for our mood. While your at it, treat yourself to a mani/pedi…. and maybe a glass of champagne. Apply some Young Living Stress Away or Peace & Calming and just relax.

Sugar Scrub

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup Coconut Oil
  • 6 drops Essential Oils (Try Lavender, Peppermint, Grapefruit, Stress Away, Bergamot, Valor)

    Whipped Body Butter (Oh and it feels & smells so good!) 

    • 1/2 cup each of Solid Coco Butter, Solid Shea Butter, Solid Coconut Oil, Olive Oil
    • 1/2 tsp Essential Oils (I used Peppermint, Lavender, & Vanilla) 
    • Heat in double boiler or microwave until solids are melted then place in fridge for 1 hour or until firm
    • Whip with hand mixer until fluffy
    • Add oils and mix again
    • Place in glass containers and decorate with labels, ribbon, etc

    Soy Candles (Actually way cheaper than store bought) 

    • Hot glue bottom of wick to bottom of whatever holder you decide to use (wicks can be purchased on Amazon)
    • Fill the jar, tea cup, etc with Soy Wax Flakes (easily bought from Amazon) 
    • Place in microwave and melt completely (Warning: Jar will be HOT)
    • Add more flakes and melt to fill
    • Add appropriate amount of your choice of Essential Oils (10 drops for pint mason jars)
    • Wrap wick around a pencil, stick, or spoon and lay on container to keep wick standing straight
    • Let cool completely
    • Cut wick, add a pretty label, and tie with ribbon 
    • Viola! 
    • (Some Name Ideas: Baked Goods, Men’s Night, Stess Away, Etc) 
    • (Can also add fresh herbs or flowers, glitter, candle dye, and more.)

    Cinnamon Salf Dough Ornaments or Gift Tags

    • 2 cups Flour
    • 1 cup Salt
    • 1/2 cup Cinnamon
    • 1 1/2 cup Very Hot Water
    • 5 drops Cinnamon Bark oil
    • 5 drops Clove oil
    • (Can add other oils you may like- Nutmeg, Thieves, Orange, Ginger)
    • Mix, roll out, cookie cut
    • Don’t forget the hole for the string (try using a straw)
    • Let dry for 24 hours 
    • Tie string
    • (Can write on them, spray them with clear, add glitter, paint, HAVE FUN)

    Play Dough (So fun for the kiddos… and smells better)

    • 2 16 oz boxes of Corn Starch
    • 1 20 oz bottle of Lotion (preferably unscented, natural lotion)
    • Mix together and divide 
    • Add Yellow Food Coloring & Lemon for Sugar Cookie Play Dough
    • Blue Food Coloring & Peppermint for Minty Christmas Fun
    • Red Food Coloring & Christmas Spirit or Cinnamon Bark
    • Green Food Coloring & Pine or Spruce
    • Brown Food Coloring & Ginger, Clove, Cinnamon Bark, & Nutmeg for Gingerbread 

    Holiday Cooking & Baking:

    • Add 1-2 drops Peppermint or Cinnamon Bark to your Brownies
    • Add Thyme, Rosemary, Sage, & Lemon to the Butter for your Turkey
    • Add 1 drop of Thieves to your crockpot of Hot (Spiked) Cider 
    • Add a Citrus Oil or Spicy Oil to your Sugar Cookies
    • Try adding Lavender Oil to your Hot Chocolate (pleasant surprise there)

    Oil Love (Chapter 5: Energy, Meditation, Healing, & General Relaxation) 

    If you have read some of my previous blogs on Life, you are familiar with my new found journey on taking care of ME and on ways to take care of YOU. And you know, I have an obsession with Young Living Essential Oils. So why not marry the two into one informative blog?Here, I want to elaborate on the benefits of essential oils and energy, meditation, healing, and general relaxation. Adding essential oils to your self care is not only beneficial but fun, great smelling, & extremely therapeutic. 

    Essential oils are the life blood of plants just as the blood we have in our own bodies. Their healing properties for ailments have been used or thousands of years. Our bodies create energy as do essential oils and depending on what energy are bodies are creating determines what essential oil we need to balance and stabilize ourselves. 

    I would dive deep into the world of energies, chakras, and frequencies but we would be here for awhile. Instead, I want to mainly focus on what happens to these when emotions come into play (as they often do). We are electrical beings living in an electrical world. Every person, element, food, emotion, and action has an energy frequency measured in MHz. In order to stay healthy mentally, emotionally, & physically, we must raise our frequencies, align and restore natural energies, remove blockages, and enhance perceptions. 

    A healthy body measures at 62-68 MHz. Negative thoughts can lower our frequency by 12 MHz in just 3 seconds. A positive thought raises it by the same in about 12 seconds. When the body drops below the healthy level of frequency, sickness can occur. Your overall well being goes out the window. This is why stress and pent up emotions can cause more harm that you know. We need those “good vibrations”.  

    Clinical research shows that essential oils have the highest frequency of any natural substance known to man, creating an environment in which disease, bacteria, virus, fungus, etc., cannot live. I believe that the chemistry and frequencies of essential oils have the ability to help man maintain the optimal frequency to the extent that disease cannot exist.

    However, one must be careful when healing your energy or balancing your emotions with essential oils. Start with the oil with the lowest frequency and layer by ascending frequencies. If we were to mix the frequencies in a disorderly way, we could cause a chaotic reaction. When our bodies are in an emotional state already, it would not be wise. Why add chaos to the chaos? My favorite oils to balance my energy and raise frequency are Clarity (101 MHz), Abundance (78 MHz), Lavender (118 MHz), & Frankincense (147 MHz). 

    We can diffuse or wear the essential oils topically. We can place them on the appropriate chakra. A chakra is an energy point in the body or the intersection of energy channels that are our life source and vital energies. When we are deeply connected to our energy, chakras can become spheres of radiant energy healing our emotions and/or ailments. Chakras are the gateways of consciousness. We can become intune with ourselves and become at peace. Each chakra has its own purpose, association, and connection and it is important for them to be balanced and in harmony with each other. This of this as road. When there is a road block, traffic occurs. And even if we take a detour, traffic will soon back up there. We must remove the road block to allow traffic to move freely. Root Chakra is our foundation or our “root”. When in balance we feel secure, connected, supported, strong, trusting and safe. When out of balance we feel insecure, angry, annoyed, irritated and worried about our basic needs. We become ungrounded. (Try balancing with Grounding, Patchouli, or Clove.)

    Sacral Chakra is the centre for sexual energy, creativity and pure emotions. Balances your ability to give and receive feelings and emotions. When in balance we feel brave, passionate, energetic, confident, creative, spontaneous, excited, open, and kind. When out of balance we feel unsure of ourselves in relationships, vulnerabe, and fear in expressing ourselves. We tend to feel betrayed, frustrated, regret, anxieties, stressors, and guilt. (Try balancing with Release, Clary Sage, Ylang Ylang, or Sage.)

    Solar Plexus Chakra is where the personality is formed and is also called our “gut instinct” chakra. When in balance we feel positive, whole, self-respected, compassionate, powerful, and hopeful. When out of balance we feel powerless, worthless, self-critical, rejected, and shameful. There is a great need to dominate and control (which is my biggest problem). (Try balancing with Cedarwood, Cinnamon Bark, or Vetiver.)

    Heart Chakra is obviously our center of love, spirituality, humanity and healing. It is the major intersection of all feelings and emotions. When in balance we feel joy, gratitude, love, unity, compassion, acceptance, pride,inspiration, forgiveness and empathy. When out of balance we feel jealous, abandoned, anger, and bitterness. (Try balancing with Abundance or Bergamot.)

    Throat Chakra allows us to communicate  our needs and take responsibility for decision making. When in balance we feel relaxation. We have the ability to communicate freely and express ourselves. When out of balance we feel powerless to speak out, fear of being judged and rejected. This can lead to feeling out of control, hurt, sad, and resentful (more of my personal issues). (Try balancing with Peace & Calming I/II, Stress Away, or Lavender.)

    Third Eye Chakra is our perspective, spiritual wisdom, understanding, and intuition. When in balance we feel clear and focused. We are open to receiving wisdom, insight, and intelligence. There is an awareness of connectiveness. When out of balance, we reject ideas of spiritual aspects of life and become unable to self-reflect. (Try balancing with Clarity, Peppermint, or Palo Santo.)

    Crown Chakra connect us to an awareness of with life, spirituality, and ourselves. We are able to live in the now. When in balance we feel empowered, calm, valued, present to the moment, trusting of the flow of life. When out of balance we feel confusion and depression. We may have very fixed, black and white thinking and unable to go with the flow. (Try balancing with Frankincense or Highest Potenial.)We lay focus on our chakras during meditaion. There are several ways to meditate. A few minutes throughout the day is all it takes to recenter yourself. Mindful Meditation: Be aware of your thoughts and emotions. Take a breath and clear your mind. Focus on accepting your thoughts, feeling, and environments in a nonjudgmental way. Allow your mind to drift into peace. We can do this anywhere- at home, in office, in traffic, etc.

    Mantra Meditation: Choose a mantra or slogan that best fits your needs and solely focus on that by closing your eyes and repeating it out loud or silently to yourself. This allows us to stay current with what we want or need our of our lives. “I am worth it!” “Good things will happen!” “I will overcome!” 

    Sensation Meditation: This can be done doing the dishes, petting the cats, walking, or showering. Focus on the sensations these tasks give us. Feel the warmth of the water or tickles of the bubbles, the softeness of the cat fur, or the movement of your legs or texture of the ground. Whatever task you choose to do, focus on the physical sensations and feelings. It is an on-the-go form of mindful meditation. 

    Guided Meditation: Thankfully we are given the wonderful world of the Internet and YouTube. We are able to easy find readily available guided meditations. Guided meditations are essentially a script given to us to put us in a state of mindfulness and peace. Place yourself in the surroundings they describe. Allow yourself to think the thoughts it gives you. And above all else, feel! Feel the emotions it gives you.

    Life is about free will. We have have to power to choose how we  think, feel, react, and what we decide and do. If there is chaos or negativity surrounding us, we choose how we react to it. We can either let it go or live with a sense of anxiety. We decide to take control and also live with anxiety or we can let go and say “what it the worst thing that can happen?”. Meditation, focusing on the Chakras, and balancing our energies and frequencie allows us to take steps to living a more peaceful life with a higher purpose. Essentials oils can help us on this road to self-recovery. There is power in aromatherapy and the microcells essential oils have. 

    Therapy is a great start to allowing yourself to let go and feel emotions. One must be honest with not only the therapist but with oneself. You will realize that it is okay to feel what you feel and that you, essentially, aren’t crazy. You will be given ways to better deal with your situations. You will have a voice, and most importantly, an ear. 

    Not into therapy? Try Reiki or an Angel Reading! These allow you to be one with your spirituality and having a sense of oneself with a greater purpose. You are not alone in this world no matter what you believe. The most important this is to stay open. Have an open mind, heart, and soul. We can’t give or receive if we are closed. Taking care of you is the bravest thing you can do. You won’t be perfect at it and- guess what?- that is okay! Stay strong! Stay diligent! Stay consistent! You will be a better person and caregiver. You will have a greater sense of YOU! Allowing yourself to let go will help you balance your emotions, have a higher frequency, all while creating a healthier you. Your well being will thank you.

    Taking Care of the Most Important Person… You

    Believe me, this is easier said than done. But, it’s all about progress. There is no ifs, ands, or buts about it, YOU have to take care of YOURSELF. Even just carving out a single moment out of the day is the start of progress to a better YOU.

    Why is it so important to take care of yourself? Let’s see… If your car runs out of gas, can it continue to drive? If you use your blowdryer everyday, will it not smoke and spark and eventually blow up? Well, same goes for you. 

    We are pulled in some many directions. Family needs us. Friends need us. Coworkers, customers, and kids need us. The world needs us. If we break down or blow up, will we be any good?


    We will be good to no one if we aren’t good to ourselves. 

    It won’t be easy. I have failed. I have forgotten. And I have been weak. But, all you need to do is to at least make a conscious effort and start to make that progress towards a healthier, less stressed you. 

    But what can YOU do to jumpstart “You Care”? 

    Here are a few ideas I have used in my own conscious effort to take care of ME:

    Find Your Hobby– Mine is crafting, painting my house, and anything that requires creativity. Maybe yours is yoga, fishing, or even stamp collecting. Whatever it may be, make time for it. Even if it’s only an hour a week, it is YOU time. YOU are in YOUR world. And guess what? YOU will enjoy it. When you are doing what YOU love, you are able to to reboot your brain to say, “Hey! I am happy!” Find your hobby or your “happy niche” and flippin’ do it! 

    Take a Trip– Maybe it’s a weekend get away or maybe it’s just a Sunday morning excursion to a flea market, either way get YOUR booty out of the house and not just to the grocery store, my dear. When you do something outside of the norm, it’s like pressing the reset button. We need change. We need adventure. We need to be free from our everyday demands for even just a bit. I try to at least travel 1-2 times a year. It gives me something to look forward to and something to work towards. Make it a celebration! Celebrate YOU and making it through this thing called Life!

    Talk– I have found being candid about my life is beyond liberating. It sets YOU free from the chains your troubles have on you. It’s okay to have problems. It’s okay to not be perfect. People will respect you more when you are honest. I have found that you never know who may reply with something that will actually resonate with you. The person you talk to should not only make you feel not alone, but YOU may make them feel not alone. There is strength in numbers. Having a good support system, big or small, known or unknown, is a huge help. Open up. You may find hope in the most unexpected place.

    MeditateDon’t laugh. When I say meditate, I don’t just mean sit on the floor with your legs crossed chanting “oooommmm”. (Though, that is an option.) There are different ways to meditate. For instance, your doing the dishes. Kids are yelling in the background. Focus on the bubbles on your hands and the warmth of the water. Unnoticeably, the sound of the kids yelling dissipates. YOU become in control of YOUR thoughts. Now, really don’t laugh at me, but I do conscious meditation while petting my cats. I bet you do it to. You just don’t notice. But when I am sad or angry or stressed, I cuddle with my cats. I focus on the softness of their fur, the warmth of them, and the sound of their purring. And poof, for those few minutes, I am not sad or angry and I can regain control of my emotions. Another choice of meditation is chanting. Out loud or silently to yourself, repeat something inspirational. I believe in the power of thought. If YOU think it and believe it, it is bound to happen. Amazing things can happen when YOU clear or mind. When you fill your mind with positive things, there is no more room for the bullshit. YOU can be your own cheerleader.

    TherapyTherapy is so much more common and talked about now. It has become way less of a taboo. YOU are not “crazy” if you go. In fact, the ones who don’t go are the “crazy” ones. Don’t get me wrong, I never thought I would ever be going to therapy. But now that I am going, I am thinking, “Why the hell haven’t I done this years ago?!?!” However, I do wish I could be friends with my therapist and take her for drinks instead of paying the office visit. But, I do look at therapy as a huge leap to taking care of myself. It’s a solid hour designated for me and me only. It’s like for those 2 weeks between visits, I am a dump truck and things load up on me making me heavy with stress, and when I am at the visit, I get to unload. I can essentially let my therapist carry my burdens. Don’t knock therapy until you try it. Go in with an open mind, courage, and willingness to change. YOU might just surprise yourself.

    PurgeStart fresh. Clean out your closet. Have a garage sale. Get rid of clutter. Having a clean slate does wonders for your new stress reduced lifestyle. It’s like starting a new chapter in YOUR book. It doesn’t need to be spring to clean. Purge, baby, purge. There is enough mental chaos in your life, you don’t need environmental chaos either. And if you do decide to have an awesome garage sale and live in the Pittsburgh area, I will come buy your junk. 

    BreatheCounting to 10 and breathing really does work! Use this practice in conjunction with a little inspirational chanting. Add in some aromatherapy and…hello relaxation! This isn’t just a plug for my love of Young Living essential oils. Aromatherapy is proven to be beneficial to reduce stress, mental strain, anxiety, depression, you name it. Lavender, Roman Chamomile, Clary Sage, Bergamot, and Lemon are only a few single oils that help. Diffuse, wear as a perfume, or apply with your favorite carrier oil behind ears, on neck, chest, and wrists. I wear a diffuser necklace. Sure, I may look silly sniffing a necklace, but it has been a godsend. Breathe in the lovely smells of freedom and leave your troubles behind.

    Not only does taking care of ourselves make us better people so we can better serve those who need us most, but it keeps us healthy. Stress and tension can cause a number of unwanted health problems such as heart disease. We must find balance in an increasingly, over-stimulating world. 

    Do not feel guilty for taking a much needed break from life’s demands. Ignoring your needs will have dangerous consequences. When you finally start to take care of yourself, improvements in all other aspects in your life will follow. 

    There is no set prescription on how you do it. Whatever YOU, as an individual need, is what YOU need to do. And remember, if at first you don’t succeed, try and try again. Practice makes perfect, my friend. Just make that progress. YOU will thank YOURSELF. Those around you will thank YOU. The world will thank YOU in some shape and form. “You Care” will become your hero.

    Every day is a new day and how we start it is the most important. We all have heard the sayings:

    Well, she woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning!

    Let’s not be those people, people! 

    Now, grant it, we will have our bad days. We aren’t perfect. We are only mere humans. 

    In this blog, I will share my daily routine (though it is not perfect) that encourages it to be as good as it can be through the use of hair & makeup products and essential oils. I am always happy to receive readers comments! So tell me your unique ways to make your day great!  

    Yea, needless to say, I am not a pleasant person before my coffee. Please, do not talk to me for atleast 20 minutes and allow me to ready myself for the day’s adventures. Recently, I have found some morning boost with Young Living’s En-R-Gee Blend. The smell alone will put a little pep in your step. It’s strong. I’ll diffuse it in the bathroom while I get my act together or I have added it in my unscented lotion on days that I may need everything short of super powers. 

    If you would see me in the morning, I look like a cross between a Q-tip and a cockatoo. It’s a bit ridiculous. So even on days that I pull out the Lazy Card, I still manage to pull my hair up in a messy bun… Or Top Knot when I want to sound fancy. Don’t over think the bun ladies! I know you do. Let me bring you in on a little tip: 

    Lay on your bed and let you head hang off. Slowing glide your head onto the bed. This automatically smooths the underneath and brings your hair to the top of your head. Wrap it in your ponytail. Spread out the hair with your fingers to give the bun the fullness and look you want. 

    Look at that…. Easy! 

    On my extra special lazy days, I reach for a hat. Luckily for us, hats are hugely in style. Grab yourself an adorable fedora and no one will ever know your hair hasn’t been washed in 3 days. If it wasn’t for bronzer, brow pencil, mascara and most importantly, lipstick, my day could not start proper. Now, if you are anything like me, you are a lipstick hoarder… I mean, collector. My job requires me to wear black and black with splashes of black. Lipstick is my color! I switch which color I use daily to spice things up and brighten my mood. When I am feeling powerful, I break out that red lipstick! Nothing says GET IT like cherry red lips. When I am down in the dumps, I apply hot pink. When I’m feeling sassy, dark lips is the way to go. Play with lipstick, ladies! I mean, c’mon, there’s a bazillion colors out there waiting to be “collected”.After fixing my face and hair, I venture to my essential oil cabinet. Depending on how I want to conquer the day determines which oils I choose to use. However, I do add 1-2 drops of Cedarwood to my unscented lotion everyday. I have even added it to my hair cream, too. It is amazing for your skin and hair. It also opens your mind and relieves anxiety. Win win! 

    If I am feeling extra motivated to conquer my work day in both the creative and business aspects, Live Your Passion blend is my must have. I will wear it as a perfume.

    If I know I am going to have to muscle up some extra brain power, Clarity Blend is my go to. I have even added Peppermint to up the ante. Clarity is also great when it’s paired with En-R-Gee. These bad boys go right into my diffuser necklace. These scents are pretty strong and I am always awakened when they get wafted up towards my nose.It’s important to take care of yourself through the day as well. Take your vitamins, eat somewhat well, and drink your water. If it wasn’t for Young Living’s Citrus Fresh Blend, I would never drink a drop. Citrus Fresh also supports one’s immune system and helps cleanse and open your lymphatic system.

    I also keep following oils close at bay:

    • Lavender- All hail to Lavender. Yup! It does everything. It is connected at the hip with me. 
    • Stress Away Blend- When a bump occurs in my good days’s road, this blend is my savior.
    • M-Grain Blend- I use this on my brows, temples, and base of head when I feel a stress or tension headache coming on. Migraines will ruin my day, so if I feel one coming one, I immediately grab this. When caught early enough, my migraine never rears it’s ugly head.

    End your day on a good note! Slip on those mismatching pjs, wipe away the day’s grime, and pour yourself some wine… Or tea or whatever it may be to soothe and relax you.

    Figure out what allows you to decompress after the day’s adventures. Whether it be yoga, reading, crappy TV drama, or cuddling with your cats, do it! It’s important to decompress or believe me, you will be up all night thinking endlessly of what happened, what could have happened, what will happen…. STOP! After my pjs are on and before my butt hits the couch, I do my nightly routine. I’m setting myself up for my next great day! 

    I remove my makeup and apply a night oil of Fractionated Coconut Oil and Frankincense. It keeps my face smooth and has amazing anti-aging capabilities. I then apply my lotion mixed with a drop of Cedarwood. Cedarwood also has been known to help with insomnia. Valerian Oil also aids in sleep. I massage this on my brain stem and behind ears. Young Living’s Release Blend over the liver allows you to rid yourself of negativity energy. Negativity energy is stored in your liver, resulting in not-so-good health and emotional stability. I like using this at night, because at the end of the day, it is just nice to let go.

    In my diffuser, my new favorite concoction is a perfect blend of Cedarwood, Valerian, & Bergamot. All my cares drift away and sleep is warmly welcomed. 

    On days that may have been extra hard, I will take a hot shower to relax my muscles, follow my oil routine, and in my diffuser I put SARA blend and spray Lavender on my bedding. The smell is intoxicating and my stress melts away.

    Sleep is so essential to your next day being amazing. You need sleep to wake up, kick ass, & conquer the next day! 

    Again, somedays we may fall. Somedays we may not look or feel our best. But if we can find a little bit of motivation whether it be in the form of a beauty routine or product, by a drop of an oil, or even a chant of inspiration.

    Oil Love (Chapter 4)

    Since my last chapter, my collection has grown extensively. When my order comes in, I’m as giddy as a child on Christmas morning. 

    Hi. My name is Amanda Bossi and I am an Oil Addict. 

    I am not ashamed.

    Since I wrote last, there have been quite a few instances when Essential Oils have been a savior to me. I love sharing my adventures in the Oily World.

    Here’s a few: 

    Bug Bite BusterSomehow, someway my poor feet were devoured like they were on the buffet for mosquitoes or God-only-knows what kind of mutant bug. 

    At night, they would itch so bad that they felt like they were on fire. I tried everything from Lavender Oil, Hydrocortisone Cream, Apple Cider Vinegar, to Ice Packs. NOTHING was working. Finally, after 2 nights of no sleep and baking muffins at 2 am, I found a solution:

    • 1/2 of a shot glass of Rubbing Alcohol
    • 1 drop Lavender Oil
    • 2 drops Peppermint

    I dipped a cotton ball in the solution and rubbed it on each bite in circles.

    Within minutes I felt a cooling sensation and the annoying itch was gone. Hallejula! I finally found solace and could, at last, sleep.

    Release the NegativitySo I ordered Young Living’s Release Blend mainly for my husband who has issues with his liver. After reading more into it, I was excited to find that even I could use it to release any negative energies stored in my own liver. I read that many times people have cry fests after application. I could use a good cry… Or so I thought. 

    Well, the night I got it, I opened it, and applied it. Needless to say, it was not pretty. Whatever you have built up, be prepared to have it all come out like vomit. I have been going through some personal issues and have been trying really hard to stay strong. Well, obviously I have not been because every emotion came spewing out. I was hysterically crying. I yelled. And shit, I even threw stuff. 

    But after the short-lived Hurricane Amanda happened, all I wanted was to be held. I wanted to feel comfort and peace. 

    This oil worked for sure. And I am glad it did. Now I feel I am ready to mend and heal. 

    When Counting Sheep Stops WorkingBesides the 2 nights I layed awake contemplating cutting off my feet, my new found favorite sleep oil routine had been working. 

    Like any artist, all my creativity somehow comes out after the sun sets. Not only that, I am a woman and women’s minds are like spaghetti. Our minds do things and thinks things in groups of 1000 and work at warp speed. It’s like entangled noodles we are trying to pick up with a spork.

    I get these spells when, forget it, my mind’s off switch is broken and the repair man took a vacation. I found a routine that seems to duct tape the off switch together which is good enough for me when I am desperate.

    I use a spray of Lavender Oil on my bedding, diffuse Bergamot mixed with either Stress Away or Lavender, and use Valerian on neck and behind ears. This has allowed me to relax enough that I can fall asleep within an hour. 

    This brings me to my next Oily Cure:

    Mental Stability & FocusSo as I said before about our brains being spaghetti, even during the day our brains can loose focus on tasks at hand or even just of what is important. Young Living’s Clarity Blend applied on wrists and brows, diffused, or worn in my necklace has helped tremendously. 

    Now to something yummy….

    Homemade Pasta Sauce Here is my not-so-secret recipe:

    • 8-10 Tomatoes of Your Choice ( I have used Roma, San Marzano, Pineapple, or Heilooms in batches)
    • 1/2 of a Large Onion
    • 1 Bell Pepper 

    I cut all of these up and lay them on a cookie sheet. I then drizzle a mixture of:

    • Olive Oil
    • Minced Garlic
    • 1 drop Oregeno Vitality Oil
    • 1 drop Basil Vitality Oil
    • Dash of Salt and Pepper

    Occasionally I will add Red Pepper Flakes or Sugar depending if I want a more sweeter or spicier sauce.

    Bake on 425 degrees for 30-45 minutes. Pour into blender and blend until smooth. Place into mason jar and allow to cool on counter until cool. Place in fridge or freezer.

    I have been writing this blog for some time now. For those of you who have been following me, you know I am partial to a few product lines:

    I stand beside these brands because I believe in them. They are tested, tried, and true. I start, make it through, and end my day with them. Not only are these staples in my daily routine, but they have been God-sends and miracle workers. 

    I’d like to share a few of my favorite things… 

    PUREOLOGY STRENGTH CURE (The Whole Flippin’ Line)

    This has been a life saver for my poor bleached, over styled hair. Think of this as a “Doctor in a Bottle”. It improves your hair by 97% in just 1 use when you use just 3 of the products: Shampoo, Conditioner, & Split End Salve. You can up the protection and healing by adding the Fabulous Lengths to your regimen. It heals micro-scarred hair damaged by heat, chemical, and environmental factors. It restores strength and softness to brittle, angry hair. To top it off, Pureology is 100% Vegan and never ever tests their products on little fur babies. It not only saves your hair but it saves the environment. 


    This “genius” product allows me to as Redken says, “Skip the shampoo but not the wash.” My hair gets angry at me since I “bleach” it. I hate washing it because I know I am stripping it of not only the beautiful toner used on it but the natural oils my hair so desperately needs. I personally use the Unruly one for the extra conditioning benefits. You think my thin hair would stick to my head but it is fluffier than ever. It’s a one step gig also making my shower routine quicker. I alternate this and my beloved Pureology Strength Cure Shampoo and Conditioner. My hair has never felt better.


    This is liquid hair crack. Buyer beware. You will be hooked. It is perfect for all hair types since its lightweight. I know. Lightweight oil. It’s a god darn unicorn. This insanely lightweight oil packs a big punch though. It adds manageability, immense, shine, & heat protection all while reducing drying time. Yup! You heard that right! Reduces drying time! Why did it take so long for this magic potion to come to be? Either way, I am so thankful I have found it now.


    This little puppy is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I use it more than water. If your like me and have 5 hairs on your head, you need this in your life! It gives my soft, fine hair the grip it needs to actually do something. And when I tease on top of it, it never moves. I also suggest this to those who have long, thick hair to help defeat the laws of gravity. The powder also soaks up any extra oils meaning you can get away with not shampooing the next day. Big hair & a lazy day! Who wouldn’t take that! 


    I prefer high-hold hairsprays and this definately makes the cut. This is an extreme hold hairspray without the crunch. The nozzle allows it to have a more evenly distributed fine mist. It also smells fantastic with hints of orange blossom, jasmine, & sandalwood. Not only will you have a gorgeous hair style that lasts, but your hair will smell of a fabulous perfume.


    Lavender is the Holy Grail of Essential Oils in my book. I use it for literally everything. Need calmed down. Lavender. Need sleep. Lavender. Have itchy skin. Lavender. Got a boo-boo. Lavender. Want to freshen up some lemondade. Lavender. Honest to Pete, the list goes on. As I have said before, “When in doubt, use lavender!”


    Both me and my husband have been using this for some fertility help, but it also does some other pretty amazing things. It also helps combat depression or plainly makes you feel happier on those gloomy, sad days. It allievates PMS and those dreaded cramps. So not only does it benefit both males and females in relationships because one is not so “witchy”, but it balances both male and female hormonal systems. Hip hip hooray! 


    Though we cannot cure stress, we can definately “oil” it away. This blend is a miracle worker to relieve the everyday stress so you can relax, sleep better, and lead a bit more of a happier life. It smells incredible! I like to apply it to my upper chest so I can smell it continuously or I have also been known to literally carry the bottle around smelling it straight. If I could swim in a pool of this, I would. 


    Another jack of all trades right here! Shoot! If it didn’t do anything else than smell flippin’ amazing, I would still be obsessed with this. I’m a huge fan of the cinnamon and clove fragrance. But this blend does so much more. It helps protect against colds and flu, soothes sore throats, & heals splinters and bee stings. Young Living also sells Thieves Household Cleaners, Soaps, Lozenges, and Toothpaste. Right now, Thieves Household Cleaner is the only thing I will clean my house with. It smells fanastic and conquers even the messiest, nastiest of jobs. And the FDA just approved the lozenges. I cannot wait to get my hands on those. 


    I run out of this all the time. It neutralizes smells and sanitizes. This and Baking Soda is what I scrub my carpets with. My house smells insanely fresh. It doesn’t just mask the stink… It eliminates it. Goodbye cat smells! Goodbye smelly husband smells! And goodbye bugs…. Oh yes! This bottle deters pests and bugs including mosquitoes if you apply a little on your skin. So if I know I am going somewhere outside, I don’t leave home without it.
